About us
We are a charitable organization from Puerto Vallarta, which was started up by a group of mothers of children with various disabilities such as:
- Cerebral palsy
- Down’s syndrome
- Consequences of Meningitis
- Microcephaly
- Muscular Dystrophy
- Cry du chat
- Hydrocephaly
- Other conditions
Although we were registered as a charity on the 22nd of November 2000, we actually started up on December 2nd 1999, when a group of us met up to begin to work together in order to rehabilitate our children, with the support and advice of therapists.
Our main objectives are:
- To provide a full crèche facility where parents can leave their children and are then able to go about their daily activities, and continue working.
- To provide these children with a home away from home.
- To offer rehabilitation services, speech therapy and physiotherapy.
- Basic education.
- To support parents, provide emotional support, and become a source of faith to them that their children can indeed be rehabilitated...
Our working hours are from 8:30am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday. During these hours the children receive the following, all FREE OF CHARGE:
- Crèche facility
- Cleaning and hygiene
- Breakfast and Lunch
- Rehabilitation
- Physiotherapy
- Stimuli for their senses
- Language problems, of a secondary language to brain damaged P.C.I., Foniatricos, hear deficit, Learning problems, Hyperactivity, Children with downs sindrome and Autistics.
- Hydromassage
- Support and advice services from doctors, therapists and psychologists.
The rehabilitation equipment that we currently have does not meet our needs, so we rely on the use of textured material, toys and games, physiotherapy balls, as well as a lot of enthusiasm and, of course, love: the essential ingredient in order to achieve the greatest possible results.
Despite the lack of equipment the children have made great improvements. As they learn to live and play together, and listen to music and now they are being regarded more and more in the same way as their brothers and sisters who go to school. For our special children, the opportunity to leave home and break the routine of being stuck in their room gives them something to look forward to.
To date, we have not received any financial assistance from the state or government, with the exception of DIF (Integral Development of the Family) from Puerto Vallarta, which has provided us with a food program of breakfasts for the children for every school day of each month. We also at times will hold a social events in order to raise funds for the charity. The operational cost of the events is covered by individual contributions from the mothers of these children, who find means to raise funds, or by cash donations, and is also supported by donations of professional services, by individuals or businesses who wish to help us.
However, we still do not have enough. The treatment for the rehabilitation of a handicapped child is a very costly, long term process, and we can´t always count on a continual supply of money and resources in order to cover our operational costs.
We would therefore like to extend a personal invitation to you, to meet us and the children in person, to understand more about our work here, our mission and vision for Pasitos de Luz.
